INTRODUCTION
Many professionals in the built environment sector have little or no finance knowledge and experience. The lack of understanding of the financial information hinders them from drafting an accurate budget and making informed business decisions. In the current competitive global economy, there is a need for the built environment professionals to grasp essential key knowledge in the area of finance in order to make more informed business decisions.


OBJECTIVES

This 2-day course is designed to help built environment professionals with little or no prior knowledge in finance to understand and interpret financial data, and how they can be applied in the business and project operations. At the end of the course participants should be able to:
• Understand and interpret the financial statements
• Evaluate the financial performance and health of the business
• Draft a realistic budget
• Apply the concepts in their daily projects and business operations

• Understanding and interpreting financial statements:
- Uses and users of financial statements
- Limitations / shortcomings of financial statements
- The income statements / Profit & Loss accounts
- The Balance Sheet
- Fund Flow Statement
- Application of financial statement for business
• Cash flow statements
- What is it and what does it tell you
- Profitability vs. liquidity
• Using financial ratios to analyse the financial performance and health of the business
• Understanding the annual report


LECTURERS
MS KOH SIEW MIN leads a team of consultants and trainers in providing financial consultancy and training to banks, MNCs and management institutes in the Asia-Pacific region. She is also an adjunct Assistant Professor at NUS Business School, and has delivered customised courses on finance for built environment companies in Singapore.

MR PETER FONG
specialises in providing advisory, training and support services to SMEs and their owners. He is a much sought-after speaker for credit and receivable management courses and actively conducts courses for local and international SMEs and MNCs. Peter is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London and an Associate Member of the Malaysian Institute of Management.
