Overview
As building projects become more complex, Building Information Modelling (BIM) has become an important tool to help building professionals improve their work effectiveness and efficiency. As an integrated design, documentation and construction tool, the strategic implementation of BIM in building projects would enhance communication and multi-disciplinary collaboration among all the project stakeholders, significantly improving the design, construction, and operation processes, with productivity gains and returns.
You will have the flexibility to take the modular certificates in any order and at your own pace*. The certificates can be stacked up towards the Specialist Diploma.
*Maximum of 3 years to accumulate the certificates for an academic qualification.
Objectives
- BIM Proficiency: Equip participants with skills and knowledge in BIM, enabling them to effectively utilize BIM software for construction projects.
- Project Collaboration and Coordination: Develop the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary project teams through the effective use of BIM, fostering seamless collaboration and communication.
- BIM Implementation and Management: Enable participants to understand and implement BIM standards, protocols, and best practices, ensuring efficient BIM implementation within their organizations.
- BIM Applications: Evaluate and implement suitable BIM strategies, tools and applications such as clash detection, 4D/5D simulation, and design buildability, energy and structure, fabrication and construction processes, site-planning, project scheduling and costing; enhancing participants' capabilities in leveraging BIM for various project phases.
- Industry-Relevant Skills: Cultivate industry-relevant skills in BIM modelling, analysis, and visualization, empowering participants to address real-world challenges in the construction and built environment sector.
- Professional Development: Foster a mindset of continuous learning and professional development, preparing participants to adapt to evolving BIM technologies and methodologies in the industry.
Course Outline
This certificate enables learners to be proficient in BIM processes and develop strategic skills for BIM implementation, design documentation and coordination. Learners will be taught to perform qualitative design checks with BIM applications and perform design analysis on energy usage and simple structures.
Courses offered:
- BIM Standards and Implementation Strategies
- BIM for Design Coordination & Documentation
- BIM for Design Analysis
- Project
This certificate enables learners to apply BIM in the construction and operation of building projects. It focuses on using BIM for the coordination, scheduling, quantification and on-time delivery of building projects. It also covers construction workflows, progress reviews, as-built models, as well as the application of BIM for Digital Asset Delivery to facilitate building operation downstream.
Courses offered:
- BIM for Construction Planning and Coordination
- BIM for Digital Asset Delivery
- Project

Who Should Attend
This Specialist Diploma Programme is designed for designers, consultants, contractors, project coordinators, project managers, CAD/BIM technicians, or modellers.
Assessment & Award
Assessment Format will be Continuous and Project Based.
A participant must attain at least 75% of physical attendance and complete all assignments to acceptable standards to be eligible to be awarded each modular certificate. Participant who did not complete the assignments to acceptable standards but attained at least 75% of physical attendance will be issued with a certificate of attendance. The successful achievement of all modular certificates will lead to the awarding of the Specialist Diploma in Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Entry Requirement
Applicants who do not wish to complete the Specialist Diploma programme are not subject to the entry requirements. The applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident or holder of valid employment pass/work permit; and possess one of the following qualifications in a relevant discipline:
- A diploma (min course duration of 2 years) or equivalent qualification
- A relevant Advanced Certificate / Higher NITEC / Advanced NBQ with 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience
- A relevant certificate with 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience
- NITEC / Higher NBQ with at least 5 years of relevant work experience
Applicant applying for Specialist Diploma in BIM must possess BIM Modelling skills (hands-on) and relevant experience. Applicant should attach the Certificate of Successful Completion of BIM Modelling course (Architecture/MEP/Structure Tracks) of not more than 2 years from date of issue from authorised training centres in Singapore such as BCA Academy during application. BCA Academy reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
Note: Applicants with relevant working experience but do not fulfil the above requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants must have their own computers/laptops with minimum specifications to run BIM software and access student portal.
Applicant with degree or diploma qualification where English is not the medium of instruction is required to achieve the ESS Workplace Literacy Test Level 6 issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
