About the Course

Overview

Computational BIM refers to the innovative problem-solving approach where users define algorithms to have automated generation and manipulation of building-related information for better work efficiency, effectiveness and productivity gains.

You will have the flexibility to take the modular certificates in any order and at your own pace*. The certificates can be stacked up towards the Specialist Diploma.

*Maximum of 3 years to accumulate the certificates for an academic qualification

Objectives

BCA Academy offers Specialist Diploma programmes in Computational BIM to equip Built Environment professionals with skills and knowledge to apply computational BIM tools for automation, optimisation and validation of different types of projects. Under the modular certificate A (Course Code 79020A), learners will acquire knowledge on basic programming syntax to script across various types of computational BIM software. Learners could then specialise in Computational BIM for building (Course Code 79020B) projects and learn about applications, workflows, management and manipulation of data generated from BIM models for construction use, enabling better collaboration between various stakeholders.

Course Outline

Certificate in Computational Thinking and Programming (Modular Certificate A)

This modular certificate equips learners with knowledge on basic coding and its application in customising BIM programmes.

Courses Offered:

  • Introduction to Computational BIM^
  • Basic Coding and Programming
  • Project

^ Holders of BCA Certificate of Successful Completion in Computational BIM & graduates of BCA Diploma in Digital Engineering will be exempted from this subject

Certificate in Computational BIM Applications (Building) (Modular Certificate B)

This modular certificate enables learners to apply simple scripts to supplement computational BIM tools. Learners will learn to use computational methods to automate, optimise and benchmark processes within a building’s lifecycle.

Courses Offered:

  • Computational BIM Tools
  • Computational BIM (Building) Applications
  • Project

Who Should Attend
Specialist Diploma in Computational BIM (Building) - This Specialist Diploma Programme is designed for all professionals in the built environment sector who are keen to use computational methods for building projects.
Assessment & Award
Assessment format will be Continuous and Project Based.
A participant must attain at least 75% of physical attendance and complete all assignments to acceptable standards to be eligible to be awarded each modular certificate. Participant who did not complete the assignments to acceptable standards but attained at least 75% of physical attendance will be issued with a certificate of attendance. The successful achievement of all modular certificates will lead to the awarding of the Specialist Diploma in Computational BIM (Building)(SDCBB).
Entry Requirement

Applicants who do not wish to complete the Specialist Diploma programme are not subject to the entry requirements.

Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident or holder of valid employment pass/work permit; and possess one of the following qualifications:

  • a diploma (min. course duration of 2 years) or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
  • a degree (min. course duration of 3 years) or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
  • a diploma / degree / equivalent qualification in any discipline with at least 3 years of working experience in the built environment or related fields.

Note: Applicants with relevant working experience but do not fulfil the above requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants must have their own computers/laptops with minimum specifications to run BIM software and access student portal.

Applicant with degree or diploma qualification where English is not the medium of instruction is required to achieve the ESS Workplace Literacy Test Level 6 issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).

There will be exemption of attendance for “Introduction to Computational BIM” in Modular Certificate A for participants who have been awarded BCA Certificate of Successful Completion in Computational BIM or BCA Diploma in Digital Engineering (DDE).
